India Signs ₹858 Crore Defence Deals for Army and Navy for Tunguska System and P8I Aircraft Support

India signed ₹858 crore defence deals for Tunguska air defence systems for the Army and P8I aircraft maintenance for the Navy, boosting readiness and supporting stronger in-country defence infrastructure.

India ₹858 Crore Defence Deals

India ₹858 Crore Defence Deals: India’s Defence Ministry has made two new defence deals worth ₹858 crore in total. The papers were signed on Friday, March 27, at Kartavya Bhawan-2 in New Delhi. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh was there when the agreements were signed. One deal is for the Indian Army and the other is for the Indian Navy. Together, these two steps are meant to make both forces more ready for duty and help improve the country’s defence support system.

The bigger part of the deal is for the Tunguska Air Defence Missile System. This contract is worth ₹445 crore and has been signed with Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport for the Indian Army.

The Defence Ministry says this system will help India deal better with dangers in the sky. That includes aircraft, drones and cruise missiles. The government also believes this deal will help keep India’s defence ties with Russia strong.

Navy Gets Support for P8I Aircraft

The second deal is worth ₹413 crore. This one is for the depot-level inspection of P8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft used by the Indian Navy. The work has been given to Boeing India Defense Private Ltd, which is a fully owned Indian unit of Boeing. The contract has been done under the Buy Indian category and has 100% indigenous content.

This is important because the Navy needs these aircraft in good condition for long-range sea patrol and surveillance work. Officials said the agreement will make sure the P8I fleet gets depot-level maintenance inside India at a local maintenance, repair and overhaul facility. This fits with the government’s push to build more defence work inside the country under Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.

India’s Bigger Defence Push

These new contracts came on the same day as another major defence step. The Defence Acquisition Council also gave clearance to many proposals worth about ₹2.38 lakh crore. That shows the government is not only buying equipment but also trying to build a stronger defence setup across different areas.

For the Indian Army, the approved plans include the air defence tracked system, armoured piercing tank ammunition, high capacity radio relay, Dhanush gun system and a runway independent aerial surveillance system.
