India Raises Concerns Over Possible Chinese Chips Inside Russian S-400 And Su-57 Used by India

Reports claim Chinese chips may be inside Russian S-400 and Su-57 systems, worrying India as it considers buying the fifth-generation fighter and checks security risks during defence talks with Russia.

India S-400 And Su-57: Some recent reports said that China-made electronic parts might be used inside Russia’s top defence weapons. These weapons include the S-400 and S-500 air defence systems and the Su-57 fighter jet. This news made Indian security officials uneasy. India already uses the S-400 system and depends on it to protect the country from air attacks. Because India and China have border problems, any link to Chinese technology inside Indian defence systems caused concern.

Experts said that if Chinese microchips or Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) were inside these weapons, there could be risks. They warned that such parts could allow spying. They could leak data or even disturb how the system works during a war. These fears became stronger because Russia has faced heavy Western sanctions after the Ukraine war, there is also a global chip shortage. Some people believed Russia might be forced to buy electronic parts from China to keep building weapons.

Russia Denies Claims

Russia strongly denied all these claims. Russian officials said the reports were wrong and misleading. They said that important electronic parts for advanced weapons are now being made inside Russia. According to them, systems like the Su-57 fighter jet and the S-500 air defence system already use local chips or are moving fully to local production.

Russia also said it plans to make all important electronic parts at home by the end of 2027. The goal is to protect its weapons from foreign influence and avoid supply problems. This step is meant to keep control over sensitive technology and reduce dependence on other countries. Russia said this will keep its defence systems safe and reliable for itself and its partners.

What this Means For India?

India has already inducted three S-400 squadrons and two more are expected under the deal with Russia. These systems are placed in important areas and are a major part of India’s air defence setup. Because of this, even small doubts about foreign parts inside the system created quiet worry among defence planners. There have also been talks about future cooperation on the Su-57 as part of India’s fighter jet plans.

Russia’s clear denial and promise of local chip production have come as relief for India. Trust is very important in the long defence relationship between the two countries. India wants to be sure that the weapons it uses are safe and free from outside control. If Russia succeeds in making all its own defence electronics by 2027, the talk about Chinese parts may slowly disappear.
