India military vehicles to Nepal: The Indian Army shared news from New Delhi on Monday about helping the Nepal Army. It said 50 military utility vehicles were handed over at the India-Nepal border. This step was taken to support Nepal and show the strong friendship between the two armies. The Indian Army also shared photos of the vehicles during the handover.

In a post on X, the army wrote, “#DefenceCooperation #IndianArmy handed over 50 military utility vehicles to the #NepaliArmy at the India-Nepal border. The vehicles will be formally presented by the Ambassador of India to Nepal during a ceremony in Kathmandu,”. The vehicles will be officially given to Nepal during an event in Kathmandu with India’s ambassador present.

Focus on Trust and long friendship

The Indian Army said this move shows its support for building Nepal Army’s strength. It also shows the close bond between the two sides. According to the army, this effort highlights the strong friendship, trust, and teamwork that both armies have shared for many years.

Out of the 50 military vehicles handed over, 20 are heavy vehicles that can carry up to 7.5 tonnes, while the other 30 are smaller vehicles with a 2.5-tonne capacity. The handover event was attended by Colonel Japendra Singh and Major Arjun Chauhan from the Indian Army. Colonel Hari Prasad Bhattrai represented the Nepal Army. Officers and staff from the Sashastra Seema Bal were also present during the ceremony.

Officials said this step will help make defence cooperation between India and Nepal even stronger. It is also expected to improve overall relations between the two neighbouring countries. Both armies continue to work closely and trust each other in many defence matters.

This close bond was also seen earlier when a 33-member Nepal Army Band took part in the Indian Army Day Parade held in Jaipur on January 15.

India and Nepal military connected with the Treaty of Sugauli in 1816. This agreement allowed Gorkha soldiers to be recruited into the British Army.

Gorkha soldiers

As per 2025 around 34,000 Gurkha soldiers are currently serving in the Indian Army. Along with them, there is also a large group of retired Gurkha soldiers who receive pensions. After India became independent, it continued to support the Nepal Army by offering special training, supplying modern equipment, and holding regular high-level meetings.

However, defence ties faced some strain after India introduced the Agniveer or Agnipath scheme in 2022. This new system stopped the recruitment of Nepali Gorkhas into Indian Army Gorkha units. Nepal raised concerns about short service periods, no pension benefits, and possible social issues. Nepal also said the scheme does not match the 1947 Tripartite Agreement between India, Nepal, and the UK.

Indian Army Support for Myanmar forces

In another update shared on X, the Indian Army spoke about its work with the Myanmar Army. The post said, “Furthering #DefenceCooperation with Friendly Foreign Countries, the Indian Army Mobile Training Team from the Simulator Development Division installed and operationalised a 12-Lane Infantry Weapon Training Simulator at the Myanmar Army Combat Forces School, Bahtoo,”.
