NVL Group: The NVL Group has officially started constructing the German Navy’s first Type 424 reconnaissance ship, marking a significant milestone in modernizing Germany’s intelligence-gathering capabilities. The new ships are set to replace the aging Type 423 Oste-class vessels under a contract amended in 2023, in collaboration with Lürssen Werft.

The symbolic steel-cutting ceremony was performed by NVL CEO Tim Wagner, with key officials including BAAINBw President Annette Lehnigk-Emden, Rear Admiral Andreas Czerwinski, and Lürssen Werft Managing Director Justus Reinke in attendance.

These 132-meter-long ships are designed for advanced electronic and signals intelligence missions, enhancing the German Navy’s reconnaissance capabilities. The first ship is scheduled for delivery in 2029, with the next two following in 2030 and 2031. The contract also includes training programs and a reference facility to be delivered by 2027, ensuring smooth integration of these state-of-the-art vessels.

Germany Strengthening Defense

Germany is actively upgrading its defense capabilities and reinforcing its NATO commitments, driven by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In addition to bolstering its military, Germany is also preparing civilian emergency shelters to ensure readiness for various contingencies.
