Barak Magen: Israel has used its newest naval air defence system, the Barak Magen, for the first time in real action. The system stopped eight drones that came from Iran. The Israeli Navy used missile boats to bring down all 8 drones successfully. The spokesperson from the Israeli military said this was the first time Barak Magen and a long-range missile called LRAD were used in a real operation, reported Bulgarian Military.
Even though the military didn’t say exactly where the drones were shot down, they hinted it happened either in the Mediterranean Sea or the Red Sea. This event shows that Israel is now focusing a lot more on stopping threats that come from the air, especially drones.

The Barak Magen system was made by Israel Aerospace Industries and is very advanced. It is not made for high-flying rockets like older systems. Instead, it is built to catch fast, low-flying threats like drones, cruise missiles, and other smaller air dangers. Israel says it has stopped at least 25 drones in recent weeks. Iran has been using large groups of drones, called swarms, which are cheap and meant to confuse or weaken Israeli defences. These new types of attacks are harder to stop using old systems, which is why Barak Magen is important now.

The Barak Magen defence system is now working on Israel’s newest Sa’ar 6-class warships. These are modern, strong ships made to guard Israel’s sea areas and energy sites out in the ocean.
- The Sa’ar 6 ships carry many weapons. Along with Barak Magen, they also have torpedoes, anti-ship missiles, and tools to fight off enemy jamming and radar. These ships can move through dangerous areas and protect against both big navies and smaller enemy groups.
- The Barak Magen is smart and quick. It uses something called the LRAD missile to shoot down enemy drones from more than 150 kilometers away. According to TOI The system works with a special radar named EL/M-2248 MF-STAR, which can watch the sky in all directions.
- It also has other sensors to help aim at the right target without mistakes. The system is also designed so it can be used on different types of ships if needed. It was created to deal with new kinds of attacks from Iran and groups that support it. These enemies often use drones and small missiles to attack ships and platforms in the sea.
- Unlike defence systems that stay on land, Barak Magen is made for use in the water. That makes it important for stopping attacks far away from Israel’s coast.

Tensions between Israel and Iran
Right now even though neither country has said they are at war, the fight between Israel and Iran has moved more and more into the sea. Both sides have attacked each other’s ships.
