INS Trikand visits Dar es Salaam: India’s Navy ship INS Trikand reached Dar es Salaam in Tanzania on April 3, 2026. The ship is a frontline guided missile frigate and is now on deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region. This visit is meant to bring India and Tanzania closer in maritime work and defence cooperation. It is part of India’s wider effort to build stronger ties with friendly countries in the Indian Ocean region.
During this stop, the crew of INS Trikand will spend time with the Tanzania Navy in joint training and professional exchanges. The main goal is to help both navies work better together and improve coordination at sea. Along with defence work, the visit will also include friendly sports events and yoga sessions.

Captain Sachin Kulkarni, who commands INS Trikand, is expected to meet senior officials from the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces and the Government of Tanzania. These meetings are an important part of the visit because they add official talks to the military and cultural side of the port call. The visit follows India’s MAHASAGAR vision, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. This vision is about building security, trust, and growth across the Indian Ocean region.
The Tanzania visit also shows that India is trying to mix defence ties with people-to-people contact. It is not only about ships and training. It is also about building comfort, trust, and friendship through direct contact, shared activities, and support between the two countries.
INS Trikand in Seychelles
Just before reaching Tanzania, INS Trikand had completed another important visit in Seychelles. That port call ran from March 16 to March 20, 2026. During that time, Captain Sachin Kulkarni met senior government leaders of Seychelles and also called on the High Commissioner of India there. The ship handed over critical spares and essential stores to the Seychelles government, showing continued support and close cooperation between the two countries.

It was also the first time the Indian Navy joined this exercise. During the harbour phase, special Visit, Board, Search and Seizure training was carried out onboard INS Trikand. This included joint boarding drills with personnel from both sides
