Indian Navy Missile Barge: The Indian Navy has added other achievements by inducting the 9th Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) barge, named LSAM 23, into its fleet. The ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. This barge is part of a contract awarded to Suryadipta Projects Pvt. Ltd in 2021 for the construction and delivery of eleven such barges. Till now the company has delivered eight barges to the Navy, with LSAM 23 being the latest addition.

These barges play a crucial role in supporting the Indian Navy’s operations. They help transport, load, and unload ammunition, torpedoes, and missiles to and from Navy ships, both at jetties and in outer harbours.

The Ministry of Defence said “Induction of these barges would provide impetus to operational commitments of Indian Navy by facilitating transportation, embarkation and disembarkation of articles/ammunition to Indian Navy platforms both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.”

The barges were designed indigenously by the shipyard in collaboration with an Indian ship designing firm. To ensure that they are safe and seaworthy, the designs underwent model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the barges meet all the necessary Naval Rules and Regulations set by the Indian Register of Shipping.

The Indian Navy tweeted “proud flag bearers of #MakeinIndia & #AatmanirbharBharat initiative of Government of India.” The tweet also emphasized the Navy’s commitment to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country.

Suryadipta Projects Pvt. Ltd has also been tasked with building and delivering four sullage barges for the Indian Navy. Sullage barges are used to manage waste and sewage from ships, further enhancing the Navy’s operational efficiency.
