Tejas LCA AF MK1: The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) has successfully test-fired the indigenously developed ASTRA missile from a Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas AF MK1 fighter jet. The test took place on March 12 off the coast of Chandipur, Odisha, marking a significant step forward in India’s efforts to strengthen its air defense systems.
The ASTRA missile is a Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM), designed and developed by DRDO. During the test, the missile accurately hit a flying target, demonstrating its advanced capabilities. All the missile’s systems worked perfectly, meeting all the mission’s goals and requirements. According to ET, the ASTRA missile can engage targets over 100 kilometres away and is equipped with state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems.

India and Sierra Leone Pledge to Strengthen Defence and Energy Partnerships
The ASTRA missile is a key part of India’s plan to reduce its reliance on foreign defense equipment and boost its own defense manufacturing capabilities. The missile’s ability to hit targets beyond visual range makes it a powerful weapon for the Indian Air Force.
Further tests are planned to evaluate the missile’s performance in different conditions. These trials will help ensure that the ASTRA missile is ready for use in real combat situations.
