India ADC-150 System: Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Navy have successfully tested a new system called the Air Droppable Container or ADC-150. The Defence Ministry shared this update in a statement on Tuesday.
During the trials the container was dropped from a Boeing P-8I Poseidon aircraft. The tests were done in the sea area near Goa. Four test drops were carried out between February 21 and March 1. These tests checked if the container could safely handle difficult release conditions while being dropped from the aircraft.
The ADC-150 has been built to carry supplies weighing up to 150 kg. Officials said all the flight development trials have now finished successfully. Because of this the system is likely to be added to the Indian Navy’s operations soon.

Designed to Help Ships in the Middle of the Sea
The new container has been specially created to help naval ships that are far away from the coastline. Sometimes ships at sea urgently need equipment, supplies or medical help but cannot return to shore quickly. The ADC-150 can be dropped from an aircraft to send these items directly to them.
The Defence Ministry explained its purpose clearly in the statement. It said, “Indigenously designed and developed to deliver a 150 kg payload, the Air Droppable Container enhances naval operational logistics capabilities by providing a quick response to naval vessels in distress that need critical stores, equipment, or medical assistance while deployed in the deep sea far from the coast.”
This means the system can quickly deliver important items when sailors need help in the middle of the ocean.
Several DRDO Labs Worked Together
Many laboratories of DRDO helped build and test this system. The Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam led the project. The parachute system that slows the container while it falls was developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment in Agra.

Flight approval and safety certification were handled by the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification in Bengaluru. Trial monitoring and instrumentation support came from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory.
Air Droppable Containers are special supply systems used by navies around the world. They allow aircraft to send important cargo to ships operating far from normal supply routes. These containers carry a parachute so they land softly on the water and the items inside do not get damaged.
