Army’s In-House Multi-Utility UGV: An officer from the Indian Army has created a new ground robot for soldiers. Major Rajprasad RS from the Corps of Engineers, 7 Engineer Regiment, has designed India’s first fully in house Multi Utility Unmanned Ground Vehicle. It is called “Sapperscout RP Ver 2.0.”
This new machine was shown at the “JAI se VIJAY Seminar” held by HQ Southern Command in Pune. It had also been displayed earlier during the Army Day Parade in Jaipur as part of the UGV Contingent. Its appearance there showed that the Army sees it as an important part of future modern plans.
Major Rajprasad is known as a Service Innovator. He has created 12 new ideas so far. In the last two years, four of his innovations have already been taken into service by the Army. The Sapperscout RP Ver 2.0 is special because it is the first multi use ground robot made fully inside the Army without outside building.

What the Sapperscout can do?
The Sapperscout RP Ver 2.0 is built to move on all kinds of land. It has six wheels and each wheel moves on its own. It also has a special suspension system that helps it travel over rough ground. The robot carries sensors to check its surroundings and avoid obstacles. Because of this, it can work in deserts and also in high mountains.
This unmanned vehicle can do many battlefield jobs. It can help find landmines. It can carry heavy loads. Also It can watch enemy areas for surveillance and it can scatter mines from a vehicle and even help move injured soldiers from danger. The design is modular. That means it can be changed to carry different systems including weapons and Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems.
In modern warfare, where machines and soldiers work together, this robot can improve Manned Unmanned Teaming. It can help in remote firing of targets, protect flanks, do reconnaissance, and carry ammunition or fuel. It can also help set up C UAS grids to stop enemy drones. Because it can handle many roles, it acts as a force multiplier for troops in the field.
Focus on Self Reliance
The JAI Seminar 2026 focused on Jointness, Aatmanirbharta and Innovation to improve India’s defence strength. Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding in Chief of Southern Command, spoke about why building Indian systems at home is important for the country’s future. They linked it to the national goal of “Viksit Bharat” and the motto “Jai se Vijay.”

The Sapperscout RP Ver 2.0 is expected to join service soon. Earlier, two other systems built by Major Rajprasad were also inducted. One was ‘Vidyut Rakshak,’ an IoT based generator monitoring and protection system. The other was ‘Agniastra,’ a portable system that can trigger multiple detonations.
