K9 Vajra-T Guns: The Defence Ministry has signed a significant contract with Larsen & Toubro Ltd to purchase K9 Vajra artillery guns for the Indian Army. The deal, worth ₹7,628 crore, aims to enhance the Army’s strike capabilities.
The K9 Vajra is a state-of-the-art artillery system known for its ability to deliver long-range, precise firepower. According to Asianetnews, approximately 100 units of the gun will be procured under this agreement, with a focus on deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), where it is expected to strengthen India’s defensive and offensive capabilities.

“The defence ministry signed a contract with Larsen & Toubro Ltd for procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army under Buy (Indian) category at a total cost of Rs 7,628.70 crore,” an official readout said.

The defence ministry in a statement said: “The procurement of K9 VAJRA-T will catalyse the artillery modernisation and enhance overall operational readiness of the Indian Army.”
The K9 Vajra-T is a highly advanced artillery gun known for its adaptability and powerful performance. With excellent cross-country mobility, it greatly enhances the Indian Army’s ability to execute precise and deep strikes across various terrains. Its cutting-edge technology enables rapid, long-range, and accurate firepower, even in extreme conditions like sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes.

“This versatile artillery gun, with its cross-country mobility, will play a pivotal role in enhancing the firepower of the Indian Army, enabling deeper strike with precision and its lethal firepower will bolster the capability of artillery in all terrains,” the ministry said, according to Moneycontrol.
Weighing 50 tonnes, the K9 Vajra can fire shells up to 50 kilometers. Since its induction into the Indian Army in 2018, it has become one of the most formidable weapons in the artillery arsenal.
Based on South Korea’s Hanwha Defense K9 Thunder system, the K9 Vajra was initially designed for desert warfare. However, it demonstrated remarkable adaptability during its deployment in high-altitude regions along the India-China border in eastern Ladakh, showcasing its versatility and strength in challenging conditions.
