What is TRAWL System?
The TRAWL system was developed by DRDO. Its job is to help tanks cross minefields more safely by making a clear path in front of them. Officials said it can create Vehicle Safe Lanes in places where anti-tank mines are laid, even if those mines have proximity magnetic fuses. This system helps tanks keep moving in risky battle zones where hidden mines can stop or damage them. Because of that, it can improve the Army’s minefield breaching ability and make operations more effective.
Push for Indian-made Defence Equipment
This purchase has been made under the “Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)” category. That means the government is giving importance to defence systems that are designed and made in India.
The move also fits with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat push, which is meant to make India less dependent on imports and stronger in local defence production. Officials also said the project can create direct and indirect jobs. It is expected to help MSMEs too, because smaller companies may be involved in making parts and components for the system. That can also make the domestic supply chain stronger over time.

The Army has been working to modernise its armoured fleet and improve how it fights in high-threat areas. In such places, the ability to move through mined ground can decide how well an operation goes. These new TRAWL systems are meant to help tanks keep their momentum during combat instead of slowing down in front of mine obstacles.
