Army Chief Addresses Military Engineer Services: Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande has asked the Military Engineer Services to make an effort to follow industrial technology breakthroughs and use contemporary building techniques. He remarked this in his remarks at a two-day engineer colloquium on infrastructure development and sustainability held on November 8 and 9 at the Manekshaw Centre at Delhi Cantonment, sources in defence establishments said.

About 550 officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, MES, as well as representatives from the building sector, academic institutions, and research groups, attended the speech given by Gen Pande, according to reports.

In his keynote speech, Gen. Pande challenged the MES to “adopt modern practises as a norm” and strive to be “in sync with the technological advancements” occurring in the business.

According to the sources, he outlined some basic concerns that the MES must address, such as knowledge exchange through collaboration with other government departments and outside organisations, investigating cutting-edge project management techniques to reduce time and cost overruns, and enhancing construction quality through the use of technology.

Speakers from many professions spoke on essential construction elements, including developing technologies like 3D construction, precast methods, cold climate concreting, underground storage, automation tools, net zero buildings, green norms and contract management.

According to the sources, the speakers included contract managers, subject matter specialists, industry litigators, and pioneers in green standards on geo-thermal topics.

Engineer-in-Chief, Lt Gen Arvind Walia while delivering the welcoming address, emphasised the national mood in constructing infrastructure and the role of the MES in nation-building, being one of the largest construction agencies in the country.

He went into further detail on the time-cost-quality paradigm and the MES’s goals to optimise the three factors’ balance.

The occasion also marked the beginning of a series of such contacts, so as to make the organisation more current and effective, they claimed.
