Army Issues RFI: For usage by the three services, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, plans to purchase about 5,000 Lorry 5/7.5 Tonne General Service 4×4. With a payload capacity of 5/7.5 tons—5 tonnes in hills, high altitude, cross-country, and desert terrain, and 7.5 tonnes on plains—the vehicle will be utilised as a general service load carrier.

Car weight and dimensions. The vehicle’s overall weight and dimensions should enable it to pass over a Class 18 bridge and be transported via a broad gauge railway segment with ODC clearance. The vehicle must be able to be transported in a service aircraft and have hooks or lashing points on all four sides in order to be air dropped.

The car should be able to quickly and simply convert from a side wall, rear board, and superstructure to a flat bed configuration. The car needs to be equipped with locking mechanisms for transporting containers.

The vehicle’s chassis must be easily convertible to fulfil any of the following roles:

(a) Troop Carrier capable of carrying 34 soldiers on foldable side facing seats with personal weapon and equipment

(b) Wireless/Signal Lorry

(c) Workshop Lorry.

(d) LRV (Light Recovery Vehicle)

(e) 5KL Petroleum/ Water Bowser

(f) Kitchen Container

(g) Refrigerated Lorry

(h) Caravan cum Office Container

(i) Other specialist roles as required by the Defence Services
