Army Chief General Dwivedi: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will travel to Srinagar on April 25. He is going there to check the security situation after a very serious terror attack in Pahalgam. The attack happened recently and has shocked the whole country. General Dwivedi will meet with top Army officers in the area, including the 15 Corps commander and leaders of the Rashtriya Rifles units. They will talk about how to handle terror threats in the region and also check on the safety measures near the Line of Control.
This visit comes just days after terrorists attacked a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadow area of Pahalgam. The terrorists killed 25 Indian tourists and one person from Nepal. Many others got hurt. People are calling this one of the worst attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pulwama incident in 2019, when 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a suicide bombing.
The recent attack has caused anger all across India. People in many cities are protesting and asking the government to take strong action against Pakistan for the deadly strike.

Government Takes Tough Diplomatic Steps After Attack
The Indian government has responded to the terror attack with strong actions on the diplomatic front. It has closed the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari immediately. This check post is a key point for trade and travel between India and Pakistan. The government has also stopped the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for people from Pakistan. Those who are already in India have been told to go back to Pakistan within 40 hours.
The government has decided to reduce the number of officers working in the High Commissions of both countries. This includes Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. They have all been declared “Persona Non Grata” and must leave India within a week, reports ET. India will also call back its own Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from its High Commission in Islamabad.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “The Defence/Military, Naval and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared Persona Non Grata. They have a week to leave India. India will be withdrawing its own Defence/Navy/Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts in the respective High Commissions are deemed annulled. Five support staff of the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both High Commissions.”

Another big move from India was the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. This water-sharing agreement was signed with Pakistan in 1960. After the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government said it would no longer follow this treaty, marking a major shift in how the two countries deal with each other on water issues.
The government has also called for an all-party meeting to talk about what happened in Pahalgam. This meeting will take place at 6 PM on Thursday at the Parliament. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead the discussion. Leaders from all political parties will come together to talk about the attack and what steps should be taken next to protect the country.
