In reality, it is part of a bigger shift in how the IAF wants to build and run its air bases in the coming years. The Barrackpore station is one of the important IAF locations in West Bengal and has long been part of the Eastern Air Command network.

LED lights help the base run in a smarter way. They use less electricity than older lighting systems and still give strong brightness. For a base that works around the clock, those savings can add up over time.
The switch to LED also means less stress for maintenance teams. Old lights burn out faster and need frequent changing. High-mast lights, apron lights and perimeter lights are especially hard to fix because they need special tools and more manpower.
