DRDO Defence Innovation: DRDO is taking big steps to make India stronger in defence technology. They are teaming up with private companies and setting up 15 special research centers called Centres of Excellence. This move is part of the “Make in India” plan, which aims to help India rely more on its own technology instead of importing from other countries.
On Friday, Sanjay Seth, the Minister of State for Defence, shared this news in Parliament. According to India Today, he said the DRDO has started new policies under the Technology Development Fund – TDF scheme. These policies will give money to private companies to work with the DRDO on developing advanced defence technologies.

The TDF scheme is a program by the Defence Ministry. It encourages Indian industries to take part in creating homegrown defence technologies. This will not only make India’s defence system stronger but also reduce the need to depend on foreign countries for technology.
When Congress MP Sanjana Jatav asked a question in the Lok Sabha, Seth explained that DRDO labs are now following clear research plans. They will also hold global reviews every two months to stay updated on the latest defence technologies around the world.
The DRDO has also set up 15 special centers called DRDO Industry Academia Centres of Excellence (DIA-CoEs). These centers are located in top institutions like IITs, IISc, and central universities. They will focus on 84 different areas of technology to help India develop its own defence systems.

To make research even better, DRDO scientists will now have online access to international databases on defence science and technology. Each DIA-CoE will work on specific futuristic technologies that are important for India’s defence and security. DRDO has also created a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to make it easier for industries and universities to work together through these Centres of Excellence.
This new plan is a major step forward for India. By bringing together private companies, universities, and the DRDO, India is working towards becoming a leader in defence technology. This will not only make the country safer but also create more jobs and opportunities for Indian industries.
