Turbo Engine for India's Defence, AZAD Engineering Limited

AZAD Turbo Engine: A leading company in precision engineering and manufacturing, AZAD Engineering Limited, has won a significant contract from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a distinguished R&D organization under the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

The production agency for the project will be AZAD, which will fully manufacture and assemble a cutting-edge gas turbine engine necessary for defense applications. By early 2026, the first batch of completely integrated engines should be delivered.

It is built with a single-spool turbojet configuration. Several defense applications can benefit from this advanced propulsion system.

The fact that AZAD was chosen as the only industry partner for GTRE shows how confident the company is in its technical and production skills. India has often shown that it is capable of producing excellent engine designs with state-of-the-art domestic technology. The difficulty, though, is in turning these outstanding designs into engines that fulfil mission-critical requirements and provide the intended results.

As per Autocarpro, Rakesh Chopdar, Chairman and CEO of AZAD Engineering, expressed his gratitude to GTRE for selecting his company for this prestigious contract and his eagerness to implement this ground-breaking design at his company’s facilities in Hyderabad.

“We are honoured to be selected by GTRE for this prestigious contract and are eager to turn this groundbreaking design into reality at our facilities in Hyderabad. From Power, Aviation, Defence and Oil & Gas, we have now expanded our manufacturing capabilities to provide end-to-end production for a fully assembled Advanced Turbo Engine, creating a massive opportunity to build a complete solution for propulsion system for the nation and global defence requirements. Our commitment to excellence positions us well to enhance India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and establish a strong presence in the country’s defence manufacturing landscape. These enhancements will enable us to serve a new era of defence applications.” said Rakesh Chopdar.
