BEL-RRP Partnership: India is trying hard to make more of its own chips and defence equipment. Now that effort has got another push. Bharat Electronics Limited, also called BEL, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with RRP Group companies. BEL is a government-backed Navratna PSU. The deal was announced by BEL on March 24, 2026. It brings BEL together with RRP Electronics Limited and RRP Defense Limited to work in semiconductors, unmanned systems, electro-optics and other advanced defence technologies.
This new step is part of India’s wider plan to make more important technology inside the country instead of depending too much on imports. The main idea is clear. Build in India. Grow Indian capability. Make systems that can be used at home and also sold in global markets.

Deal
The partnership brings different kinds of experience into one team. BEL has spent many years working in defence electronics and mission-critical systems. RRP Electronics adds semiconductor manufacturing strength.
RRP Defense brings work in electro-optical systems and UAV platforms. BEL’s official release says the three sides will use these strengths together to move ahead in important high-tech areas.
They both want to design and develop several new products and systems. These include high-precision electro-optics, surveillance systems, weapon sights, semiconductor devices and next-generation unmanned solutions. So this is not just a paper agreement. The plan is to work on real systems that can support defence needs in a practical way.
Why this is Important for India?
This move fits into a much bigger national effort. India has been trying to cut dependence on foreign technology, especially in sensitive areas like semiconductors and defence. These are sectors where outside dependence can become a serious problem. That is why partnerships like this are getting more attention now.
The companies say they want to work together on the design and development of key systems. They are putting focus on very accurate electro-optics and semiconductor devices. They also want to look at export opportunities under defence policies. That means the work is not only for India’s own needs. There is also hope that some of these products could find buyers in other countries in the future.

Manoj Jain, CMD of BEL, said, “This MoU marks a significant step in our journey towards strengthening Indian defence ecosystem. By combining BEL’s expertise in defence electronics with RRP’s capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing, Electro-Optics and UAV platforms we are confident of delivering cutting-edge, indigenous solutions that will serve both national and global requirements.”
RRP Group’s Rajendra Chodankar added, “This partnership with BEL marks a forward-looking advancement in our journey to strengthen India’s defence technological base. Through collaboration with BEL that has long defined excellence in defence electronics, we will accelerate our intent to advance India’s defence ecosystem through work that is purposeful, dependable, and aligned with the nation’s long-term interests.”
