Tight Police Security in Odisha’s Coastal Zones Following Pahalgam Attack

Police teams and Indian Navy are collaborating to prevent illegal activities near the Devi River mouth. They are closely monitoring boat movements, fishermen, and ensuring safety.

Odisha Police Security: Police teams and the Indian Navy are working together near the Devi River mouth under Astaranga marine police area to stop any illegal activities. They are checking the movement of boats and keeping a close watch on everything. Fishermen there are being checked properly, especially their ID proofs like Aadhaar cards.

Officials are also asking them to report anything or anyone that looks strange or suspicious. One senior police officer said they are making sure everything stays safe by patrolling the area and carefully watching the boats.

The police have given phone numbers to the people so they can easily report anything wrong. Security has been made tighter not just at the river area but also in many important places. Police forces are now on high alert near the Puri Jagannath Temple, on the beaches, and around defense areas in Balasore and Bhadrak. They are also guarding main government buildings like the state assembly and the secretariat in Bhubaneswar.

“The attack on tourists is highly condemnable. We have started reviewing safety measures at tourist places in our state. Strengthening of the tourist police cells is being examined by Odisha Police,” tourism minister Pravati Parida said, reports TOI.

Parida stressed how important it is to keep tourists safe and spoke about Odisha’s long-standing culture of peace, unity, and heritage. The tourism department and the state police have started working together to study the current safety systems in place. Their main aim is to improve the tourist police units that help protect travelers.

Security Discussions Ongoing

Police officers shared that they always stay alert, but after the Pahalgam attack, they have added more safety steps to their work. They didn’t share details about the extra things they’re doing, but they made it clear that more security has been added in important areas.

In Bhubaneswar, the Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania held a closed-door meeting with senior officers. Some officers from the CRPF and BSF also joined. Sources said they talked about different security strategies, including how to deal with Maoist threats and other extremist dangers. They also talked about how to keep tourists safe.

The DGP said told TOI “We are on alert. Safety and security of tourists is our priority area. All SPs have been advised to maintain the highest vigilance. Anti-sabotage units are conducting regular checks at vital infrastructure locations and religious sites. Security teams are continuously monitoring CCTV footage at command centres.”

The railway police are also helping by increasing safety at busy train stations. An officer shared that their bomb detection teams and sniffer dogs are checking public places all the time. The police cyber cell has been told to keep an eye on social media to stop any false news from spreading and to make sure peace is maintained.
