S-400 in Operation Sindoor: Russia has spoken strongly in support of India after Operation Sindoor, saying that the S-400 air defence system once again showed how close the defence ties are between the two countries. Roman Babushkin, who is Charge d’Affaires at the Russian Embassy, told Times Now on Tuesday that Moscow and New Delhi stand ready to continue working together just like they have for many decades.

He pointed to the way the S-400 system was used during the four-day clash between India and Pakistan. The air defence shield has been credited with shooting down a Pakistan Air Force airborne early warning and control aircraft that was Swedish-built. This was earlier confirmed by Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. At the moment, the Indian Air Force has three S-400 units and two more are expected to arrive soon.
Moscow’s view on Operation Sindoor
Babushkin also reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin had strongly condemned the terror attack at Pahalgam which led to Operation Sindoor. He explained that Moscow is open to working with India in future projects too, including the Sudarshan Chakra, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Independence Day. The plan is to have this large nationwide air defence system ready by 2035, repored Times Now.
Babushkin praised the Indian decision to use Russian weapons by saying that their proven success makes them a natural choice.

Babushkin said, “Given the proven success of the S-400, Russian weapons were a natural choice.” He also added that Russia had always supported Make in India, even before it officially became a slogan. He gave the example of the joint work on jet engines and how Indian-made parts are already used in Sukhoi-30MKI fighter engines.
Indus Water Treaty and China talks
The Russian diplomat also spoke about the Indus Water Treaty which India ended after the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan had protested against the move, but Babushkin said clearly that “bilateral issues had to be sorted out bilaterally.”
He also showed hope for better cooperation in the region. They mentioned that Russia wants India, China and Russia to continue their talks under the RIC format. He pointed out that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to India went well, and said that he hoped discussions would restart soon.
