Mission Sudarshan Chakra: One month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday that the government has already set up a committee to study the project and make what he called a “realistic action plan.” He made this statement while speaking at the Combined Commanders’ Conference 2025 in Kolkata, West Bengal.
Singh told the commanders that they must stay proactive and push hard to build Sudarshan Chakra. He said very clearly that the committee has been formed to examine the project and prepare a “realistic action plan.” Singh also suggested that the defence forces should make a medium-term plan for five years and a long-term plan for the next ten years to see this vision come true.

A shield for India
On Independence Day, August 15, Prime Minister Modi had revealed the national security plan called Mission Sudarshan Chakra. He explained it as a major step that will protect India’s important infrastructure over the next decade by using Indian-made technology.
After that, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also spoke about this project. He called it the ‘Golden Dome’ and compared it with Israel’s Iron Dome. Chauhan said it will be an Indian-made solution that will work as “a shield and a sword” and the goal is to make it ready within ten years.
Reports say this air defence system will be strong enough to find, track and stop enemy missiles, drones and aircraft. It will use normal weapons and also new-age directed energy weapons. Defence officials shared that satellites and radar networks will also become part of the system because many modern missiles go high into the air before coming down on their targets.
The project will use new technology like AI, big data, advanced computing and even quantum systems. All of this will help commanders take faster decisions and study threats better. The armed forces also want to make a single connected network that covers land, air, sea, undersea and even space.

New age warfare
Rajnath Singh asked the armed forces to not just think about traditional war. He said they must stay alert to new invisible threats like information warfare, ideology warfare, biological attacks and ecological challenges. He pointed out that changes across the world and unstable regions make it very important for India to keep checking its own security system.
Singh stressed that warfare is always changing. He explained, “Wars of today are so sudden and unpredictable that it is extremely difficult to foretell its duration. It can be two months, a year, or even five years. We need to be prepared. We need to ensure that our surge capacity remains sufficient” The Statesman reported.
The minister also highlighted that teamwork between the three services and other agencies is “essential” for the future. He reminded everyone of Operation Sindoor and said, “Operation Sindoor has demonstrated that Strength, Strategy and Self-reliance are the three pillars that will give India the power it needs in the 21st century. Today, we have the capability to face any challenge with the help of indigenous platforms and systems coupled with the indomitable courage of our soldiers. This is the real strength of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
