Maharashtra’s Role In Defence Sector: General Manoj Pande, the Chief of Army Staff, gave a keynote speech at the Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo on Monday at the Pune International Exhibition and Convention Centre (PIECC) in Moshi, Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“Noting that the state was the first in India to frame a Defence Manufacturing Policy after private investment was allowed in the defence sector, General Pande said that Maharashtra deserves a mention for being one of the major contributors to the nation’s economy, industrial growth, exports, and FDI attractiveness.”

“In the ‘Package Scheme of Incentives,’ Maharashtra has also designated aerospace and defence industries as a thrust industry. Because of these initiatives, the state now accounts for almost 20% of the nation’s production of ships, aeroplanes, and boats as well as 30% of its production of guns and ammunition. He continued, “These numbers demonstrate a strategic perspective for advancing the Defence Industrial Sector.

While praising India’s economic progress, General Pande said that the country is seeing more consumer prosperity, greater living standards, a higher literacy rate, and rising ambitions among its people. He praised the actions taken by the military and government agencies in the areas of frontline entrepreneurship, infrastructure investment, skill development programmes, policy reforms, and digital potential, noting that these demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and the ability to be a trustworthy supply chain partner.

In addition, the COAS stated that as part of the Indian Army’s effort to foster innovation, intellectual property rights for goods created in partnership with business must be pursued. The speaker emphasised that the Indian Army has submitted 66 IPRs thus far, out of which 13 patents, 5 copyrights, and 5 design registrations have been approved.

Tank T-90, BMP Mk-II, Soltam Gun, Dhanush Howitzer, K-9 Vajra, Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher, Sarvatra Bridge System, Schilka Gun, Fly Catcher Radar of Army Air Defence, Tavor, Sig Sauer & M4 Assault Rifles, Ak-47, Sniper Rifles, and various other weapons and equipment were among the indigenous systems and equipment that the Indian Army displayed during the expo.
