Defence Nuclear Aerospace Corridor in Maharashtra: In a big move for industry in Vidarbha, the Maharashtra government has approved land acquisition for the proposed Defence Nuclear Aerospace, or DNA, Corridor in Saoner in Nagpur district. The decision was taken at the 186th meeting of the state’s high-powered committee at Mantralaya in Mumbai on April 8.
The plan is for a very large industrial project that could change the future of Saoner. The corridor is being seen as an important step for central India because it is expected to bring modern factories and new business activity to the area.

More than 2,700 hectares of land to be acquired
As part of the proposal, 2,721.9491 hectares of land, which is about 6,725.98 acres, will be acquired in Saoner tehsil. Out of this, 2,601.2091 hectares are privately owned land, while 120.74 hectares belong to the government. The land process will be done under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act, 1961.
Reports also say part of the broader land plan is linked to a fertilizer complex backed by GAIL, with the remaining land meant for units in defence, aerospace and nuclear-related sectors. That has added to the idea that Saoner may grow into a bigger industrial zone with more than one major project coming up side by side.
What kind of Industries will be Established?
The proposed DNA Corridor is planned as a place for advanced manufacturing. Industries connected to aerospace are expected to come here, including work related to aircraft, drones and satellite parts. The corridor is also meant for defence production such as weapons, missiles and ammunition. Along with this, newer sectors like nuclear technology, robotics and advanced engineering are also expected to be part of the project. If that happens, Saoner could turn into one of the important industrial centres in this part of India.

This idea matches the Union government’s Make in India push for defence self-reliance. Similar defence industrial corridors are already being developed in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Maharashtra has proposed that key Vidarbha districts such as Nagpur, Amravati and Wardha should be included in its own DNA corridor vision.
Jobs Opportunities
Saoner MLA Ashish Deshmukh welcomed the approval and said it came after steady follow-up with both the state and central governments. Reports say he had written to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in August 2025 and explained why Saoner would be a good place for such a corridor. He also thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and said the state leadership helped move the approval faster.
According to Deshmukh, the project can bring large investment, create jobs for local young people and help the long-term economy of Nagpur district and the wider Vidarbha region.
