INSV Tarini Crew Extends Women’s Day Wishes, Rajnath Singh Calls Them ‘Beacon of Nari Shakti’

As part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II (NSP II) initiative, the two-women crew has undertaken a challenging voyage and recently crossed Point Nemo, the world’s most isolated waters.

New Delhi: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Indian Navy officers Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A, currently on a global circumnavigation mission aboard INSV Tarini, extended their wishes and encouraged women to recognize their strength, independence, and potential.

As part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II (NSP II) initiative, the two-women crew has undertaken a challenging voyage and recently crossed Point Nemo, the world’s most isolated waters. They have also navigated the treacherous Drake Passage, a significant milestone in their expedition.

Defence Minister Lauds Their Courage

On the eve of Women’s Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh interacted with the sailors via video conferencing and praised their resilience, dedication, and bravery. Calling them a “beacon of Nari Shakti”, he congratulated them on their remarkable achievements.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Singh said:

“On the eve of International Women’s Day, I interacted with the amazing crew of Navika Sagar Parikrama II. Their courageous journey aboard INSV Tarini, tackling the immense challenge of circumnavigating the globe, stands as a beacon of Nari Shakti. Their resilience, calm demeanor, and meticulous approach in extreme maritime conditions exemplify the exceptional capabilities of women today.”

Sailors Share Empowering Messages

In a video message, Lt Cdr Dilna K expressed her gratitude to the women who inspired her and encouraged women worldwide to embrace their strength and never let anyone bring them down.

“To all the strong women in my life and around the world, wishing you all a very Happy International Women’s Day. Let us remember that our voice matters, our story matters, and our presence matters,” she said.

Lt Cdr Roopa A echoed similar sentiments, urging women to prioritize themselves and break stereotypes.

“To all the mothers, aunts, friends, and colleagues, you have made a difference in my life, ignited a spark in me, and given me the strength and courage to chase my dreams,” she said.

INSV Tarini’s Ongoing Voyage

The officers embarked on their global circumnavigation expedition in October 2024. Currently, their vessel INSV Tarini is sailing in the South Atlantic Ocean, 450 nautical miles from Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, and is heading towards Cape Town, South Africa, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

During his interaction, Rajnath Singh reiterated the government’s vision of a gender-inclusive armed force, encouraging young women to consider careers in defence and adventure sports.
