The Government of India, alongside the Punjab Government, has taken decisive steps under the Civil Defence Act, 1968, to impose a full blackout in Gurdaspur district from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM starting May 8, 2025. This move follows a heightened alert due to sensitive conditions along the Indo-Pak border, with further instructions pending.
While Central Jail Gurdaspur and local hospitals are exempt from this blackout, they are mandated to keep their windows closed to prevent any escape of light. The blackout is part of measures to navigate potential emergencies as tensions rise following escalatory actions between India and Pakistan.
