India and UAE defence: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plan to deepen their partnership in defence cooperation, joint production projects, and technology sharing. The statement came after Singh met with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, in New Delhi.

During their meeting at South Block, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current defence collaboration between the two nations, which includes joint military exercises, training programs, and institutional partnerships. They agreed that defence cooperation should expand further to match the strong trade and business relations already in place, reported by The Statesman.

Singh later shared on social media platform X that India and the UAE are committed to working together for peace and prosperity in the region. Sheikh Hamdan is visiting India for the first time officially, following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The discussions also focused on strengthening Coast Guard cooperation, with plans to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Additionally, the two sides explored ways to boost defence manufacturing collaborations, recognizing the potential for joint ventures in this sector.

Dubai plays a crucial role in India’s ties with the UAE, serving as a hub for cultural and economic exchanges. Over 4.3 million Indians live in the UAE, most of them in Dubai. Diplomatic relations between India and the UAE began in 1972, but the partnership saw significant growth after PM Modi’s visit to the Emirates in 2015.
