India and Malaysia defence: India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, hosted the inaugural India-Malaysia Security Dialogue on Tuesday with his Malaysian counterpart, Raja Dato Nushirwan, Director General of Malaysia’s National Security Council. The meeting took place in New Delhi, where both sides discussed global and regional security challenges and reviewed ongoing collaborations in security, defense, and maritime affairs.
The dialogue centered on counter terrorism, deradicalization, cybersecurity, defense cooperation, and maritime security. As per Indiatvnews, both nations expressed their commitment to deepening ties in these critical areas. They also explored new avenues of cooperation, such as the development of critical minerals and rare earths, which are essential for modern technologies.

It was agreed to formalize this dialogue by holding annual meetings, ensuring consistent progress in strengthening bilateral ties.
This dialogue stems from Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India in August last year, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During that visit, the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on enhancing security cooperation.
One key outcome of the prime ministerial meeting was the plan to link India’s UPI payment system with Malaysia’s PayNet, showcasing the countries’ intent to collaborate beyond traditional security sectors. Discussions during this dialogue also revisited possibilities for deeper defense industry cooperation.
