Agniveers CAPF Absorption Plan 2026: The Home Ministry has started working on a plan for Agniveers who will soon leave the armed forces. An official said the ministry has told leaders of the Central Armed Police Forces to form an internal committee. This group will help decide how former Agniveers can grow in their careers. It will also decide what duties they can handle and where they can fit best inside paramilitary forces.
An official explained the idea clearly. He said, “The ministry has asked the top brass to examine the modalities of ex-Agniveers’ induction into CAPFs and where they could be inducted in the forces to get the maximum capacity utilisation. The ministry will come out with a policy decision soon on this,”. This move comes as the first batch of around 46,000 Agniveers is ready to complete their four-year service. These young soldiers joined the army, navy and air force under the Agnipath scheme.

CAPFs Ready to Absorb Agniveers
The CISF chief Praveer Ranjan said the Home Ministry will soon announce a full plan after talks with all CAPFs. He also shared that Agniveers who served in the navy could be used for port security roles in the CISF. This shows the government wants to use their training in the right way.
Last month the Home Ministry made a big change, they released a gazette notice that raised the Agniveer quota in CAPFs to 50%. Earlier it was only 10%. This decision follows protests by job seekers who were worried about life after military service. To calm these fears, the government had first announced 10% job reservation in defence and home ministries. It also gave a five-year age relaxation for the first batch of Agniveers joining CAPFs and the Assam Rifles.
Currently the CAPF recruitment already has fixed reservations. These include 27% for OBCs, 15% for SCs, 7.5% for STs and 10% for ex-servicemen. The new Agniveer quota will work within this system.
How will Selection Work?
Under the Agnipath rules, around 75% of Agniveers will leave the armed forces in 2026. Only about 25% may stay on based on performance and need. This means many trained youth will soon look for jobs. The Home Ministry is planning to guide this workforce into security roles across India.

Senior officers from CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB have been asked to help shape this policy. A CISF-led team is working on how many Agniveers can be taken and what jobs they can do. The final policy will be approved after discussions with all CAPFs.
Recruitment under the new rules include:
- Former Agniveers will not need to take the Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test.
- They will still have to clear written exams like other candidates.
- This system respects their training while keeping fair testing for everyone.
The Agnipath Scheme started in June 2022 to make the armed forces younger and modern. Recruits serve for four years and get military training. Once the service is over some may stay while others may receive a Seva Nidhi package to help start a new life.
