Government Grants Ex-Servicemen Status to MNS Officers

The Union Government has granted Ex-Servicemen status to Military Nursing Service officers, allowing them to receive reservation in jobs, age relaxation, and full post-retirement welfare benefits.

Ex-Servicemen to MNS Officers

Ex-Servicemen to MNS Officers: The Union Government has decided to give Ex-Servicemen status to officers of the Military Nursing Service MNS. For many years these officers were not treated the same as officers from the Army Navy and Air Force after retirement. Now this gap has finally been removed. With this step MNS officers will get the same post retirement benefits as other armed forces personnel.

The Ministry of Personnel has released an official notification to make this change. The government updated the Ex-Servicemen Re-employment in Central Civil Services & Posts Rules. In this update the meaning of Ex-Servicemen has been clearly expanded to include officers of the Military Nursing Service. The rule started working from the day it was published. This means eligible former MNS officers can start using the benefits right away without waiting.

Old Problem Fixed

Earlier MNS officers worked in tough places like operational areas frontline military hospitals high altitude regions and even naval ships. Even after doing such hard duty they were not allowed to use some benefits that other armed forces members received after retirement. All of them could not get reservation in central government jobs. They did not get age relaxation in competitive exams. They also could not fully access welfare and resettlement schemes run by the Kendriya Sainik Board.

Now this long pending issue has been corrected. Their years of service will be counted properly for post retirement benefits.

  • They will now get 10% reservation in Group C government jobs and 20% reservation in Group D jobs.
  • They can also reduce their age by the number of years they served in the military plus three extra years when applying for civil jobs.

This follows the same rule already used for other ex servicemen.

Former MNS officers can now apply for UPSC and SSC exams on equal terms with other ex servicemen. They will also get full access to welfare schemes rehabilitation support and re employment help after retirement.

Equal Status

This change is being seen as a strong step toward fairness. MNS officers serve in both combat and non combat zones and play a very important role in military hospitals and risky postings. By adding them officially under the ex servicemen category the government has given proper recognition to their service.

The amended Rule 2 now clearly names the Military Nursing Service of the Indian Union along with the Regular Army Navy and Air Force. The rule applies to all former MNS officers no matter their rank or type of duty. This removes confusion that earlier stopped many officers from getting government jobs and other retirement benefits.
