Advantage Assam 2.0: Can Assam’s Defence Corridor Dream Turn Into Reality?

Colonel C S T Swamy, an administrative officer from the Kovai NCC Group Headquarters, spoke about how AI is changing defence systems. He explained that older methods of border surveillance, which depend on humans, often make mistakes. But AI uses deep learning and neural networks to spot problems like intrusions and send alerts immediately. AI-powered cameras can tell the difference between humans and animals, track movements, and even detect weapons, making border security much stronger.

Colonel Swamy also talked about how AI is used in managing weapons. Swamy gave the example of AI-controlled drone swarms that can find and attack multiple targets with great accuracy. He said, “This is a big change in modern warfare, where speed and precision are very important.” He also mentioned that AI helps in cybersecurity by decoding enemy messages, stopping phishing attacks, and finding harmful software.

Commodore B Balasundaram, the director of the Centre for Indigenisation and Self Reliance for the Indian Navy, spoke about how industries can help build defence capabilities. He said, “Programs like ‘Innovations for Defence Excellence’ bring industries and universities together to create new technologies.” He added that Coimbatore, which is part of the southern defence corridor, is becoming a key place for defence manufacturing. Local industries and big companies like HAL and BEL are playing a major role in this growth.
