the Indian government said the deal will help strengthen India’s air defence system. It also said that the agreement fits well with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, which focuses on self-reliance in defence and technology. The deal will not only meet India’s current needs but also help the Indian Ministry of Defence plan for the future.

Lightweight Multirole Missiles

The LMM which is also known by the name Martlet is a new type of advanced missile used for air defence. These missiles are light in weight but very powerful and flexible. They can be used from aircraft, ships, and even ground launchers. The LMM can strike many types of targets like drones, small boats, and armoured vehicles. It can be used as air-to-air, air-to-surface, or surface-to-surface weapon depending on the mission.

Thales, the company that makes these missiles, is based in Belfast and is a major part of the UK’s defence industry. The company has said these missiles are made to perform well even in rough weather and tough battlefield conditions.
