Amit Shah on Smart Border Plan: On 26 May 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah went to the Sanchu Border Outpost in Rajasthan’s Bikaner sector and met BSF personnel there. He looked at the border security situation on the India-Pakistan side and spoke about the new kinds of danger that are now coming up. He said the BSF must now see its job from a “new dimension” because border threats are no longer only about people crossing on foot. They also include drone attacks, hybrid warfare, cyber trouble, and other technology-based tricks.
He also told the force that its work is not only to guard the line on the map. It now has to watch for illegal smuggling, infiltration, and other cross-border activity too. The official PIB note says Shah also stressed that the BSF must keep watching for any illegal construction or any strange demographic change inside the 50-km border zone and tell the civil administration and state government quickly.

Smart Border Plan and Anti-Drone Push
A big part of Shah’s message was about drones. Reports from Doordarshan and Akashvani said he told BSF personnel that the government will begin installing anti-drone systems within the next six months. The aim is to stop narcotics and weapons from coming in through drones. He also said the response must be fast and based on results, not just words.
The government is also looking at a “Smart Border Project” for the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders. News reports said this plan may bring AI-based watching systems, radar, drone monitoring, smart fencing, modern cameras, and sensors together in one stronger setup. The larger idea is to make the borders harder to cross and easier to watch day and night.
Four-Layer Security
At the BSF Prahari Samelan in Bikaner, Shah also spoke about a four-layer border security grid. This means the BSF, the Indian Army, local border residents, and civil administration all working together like one team. He said that border security cannot be done by one group alone, especially when the threats are changing so fast

He also pointed to other support work already going on. The Centre is building a 1,096-km lateral road and a 520-km road along the border to help movement and connectivity. New fencing is being installed too, and drinking water pipelines have already been completed at 180 border outposts in Rajasthan. Shah also inaugurated women’s barracks and said more facilities are being built for women personnel.
