Indian Navy Bets Big on AI With INAMS 2.0 Smart Weapons Platform

The Indian Navy is developing the INAMS 2.0 platform with AI tools, strong cybersecurity, and smart weapons tracking systems to modernise naval logistics and reduce dependence on foreign defence software.

Indian Navy INAMS 2.0: On 25 May 2026, the Indian Navy put out a Request for Information for “Indian Naval Armament Management System Ver 2.0 (INAMS Ver 2.0)”. The official Navy RFI page shows the notice running from 2026-05-25 to 2026-07-23. In simple words, the Navy is asking Indian tech firms to help build a newer and smarter digital system for managing naval weapons work.

What INAMS 2.0 is Meant to do

This new system is meant to replace the older INAMS 1.0 setup now used across Naval Armament Depots. It will act like one central digital brain for the Navy’s armament work. That means it should help with weapons management, ammunition tracking, explosives logistics, procurement, personnel records, production planning, and inventory coordination. The goal is to link Naval Armament Depots with Naval Headquarters in New Delhi more smoothly, so the whole chain works like one joined-up machine instead of many separate parts.

The Navy also wants this platform to handle around 1,200 concurrent users. Reports say the system is expected to bring real-time logistics monitoring, secure weapons inventory tracking, AI and machine learning tools, better planning, and stronger data protection. In plain language, the Navy wants a tool that can keep track of sensitive armament data fast, neatly, and with fewer slip-ups.

Cybersecurity First, Control at Home

A big part of the project is security. The RFI is said to call for AES-256 encryption, multi-factor authentication, full cybersecurity audits, and safe data storage. Before the system can be used, it must also pass a security check by the Indian Navy’s Naval Cyber Group. Another major rule is that the complete source code and intellectual property rights will later be handed over to the Navy after delivery. That keeps control inside India and cuts dependence on outside vendors.

The project is also part of the Navy’s wider push for modern digital defence tools. Recent work has included indigenous autonomous navigation software tied to naval unmanned surface vessel work, and other joint efforts with Indian industry on advanced mine countermeasure systems. The bigger aim fits with “Aatmanirbhar Bharat”, with the Navy trying to build a future-ready force by 2047 through digital systems, AI use, and more home-grown defence tech.

The INAMS 2.0 plan is not a short patch job. It is expected to run for five years. In the first 2 years, the work will focus on development, testing, and early rollout. The next 3 years are meant for support, maintenance, and system tuning. That makes it clear the Navy is aiming for a deep digital rebuild, not just a quick software touch-up.
