PM Modi’s Indonesia Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia turned into a big day for both sides. India and Indonesia said they signed 20 agreements and outcome papers across defence, trade, critical minerals, healthcare, education, agriculture, digital work and culture. The talks were held in Jakarta with President Prabowo Subianto.
The two leaders said they wanted the partnership to grow much deeper and to support a free and open Indo-Pacific. Reuters reported that one of the biggest defence steps was a BrahMos missile deal, while official Indian and Indonesian statements said the visit also covered many other areas of cooperation.

Prabowo said, “We’re two of the largest democracies in the world,” and added, “Partnerships between us will bring benefits to the region.” Modi said the ties were not just about two countries. In his words, “Our partnership is not merely a relationship between two countries, it is a pledge of trust in the stability in the Indo-Pacific, strength of the Global South and in a shared future of the world,”. He also said India and Indonesia would work more closely in space, telecom, artificial intelligence and digital public infrastructure.
The 20 Agreements

Defence and trade
India and Indonesia agreed to work more closely in minerals and steel supply chains. They also promised to improve maritime safety and security. Another important step was a deal on rare earth magnets between NFTDC, Midwest Ltd and PT PERMINAS. Defence also got stronger with cooperation on the BrahMos missile and air-to-air missiles. SAIL and Krakatau Steel will also build a stainless-steel slab project in Indonesia.
Science, Health and Farming
The two countries will extend space cooperation too. India will help restore the Prambanan Temple. Both sides also signed deals on agriculture, medical product rules, disaster management, telecom, research and innovation, and health worker training.
Indonesia will also send a liaison officer to IFC-IOR so both countries can share maritime information better.
Education, Culture and Digital work
India will supply 100 tonnes of DWR-162 wheat seeds to Indonesia. The two countries also announced the Tagore-Dewantara Year for 2026 to 2027. IIM Bangalore will open a branch campus in Indonesia.

ONDC will work with Indonesia Open Network. India’s Election Commission and Indonesia’s election body will also share knowledge and experience.

This was not just a paper-signing trip. It showed that India and Indonesia want to build a wider bond, not only in defence but also in schools, health, farms, ports, digital systems and culture. Reuters said the BrahMos deal alone is worth about $630 million and India will also supply Astra air-to-air missiles. The broader message from the visit was simple.
