KC-135 Tankers: There is a huge build-up of American military power in the Middle East right now. This has made many people worried that a war could start. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said talks with Iran are moving in a good direction. He said he wants a serious deal to reduce the tension. But he also gave a warning. He said Iran must agree to something important. “Otherwise bad things happen,” Trump told the first meeting of his Board of Peace in Washington.
Iran answered back in a strong way. The country said it does not want to begin a war. But it also made clear that it will defend itself if attacked. In an official message, Iran said, “in the event that it is subjected to military aggression, Iran will respond decisively and proportionately” in its exercise of the right of self-defence.
The message also warned,, “All bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile force in the region would constitute legitimate targets.” It added, “The United States would bear full and direct responsibility for any unpredictable and uncontrolled consequences.”

US Warplanes
At the same time, many American military aircraft were seen flying toward the Middle East. The flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that at least six US military planes were on the move. These included two E-3 surveillance aircraft, two C-17 transport planes, one KC-135 refuelling tanker, and two HC-130 Combat King II aircraft.
The US Air Force has also sent many refuelling planes like the KC-135 and KC-46. These planes help other aircraft fly long distances by giving them fuel in the air. Reports said the number of these tankers in the region is much higher than normal. The BBC reported that the US was setting up refuelling spots at bases stretching from Spain to the island of Crete in Greece. There are seven KC-135 planes in Crete and six more at Spanish Naval Station Rota. When many refuelling planes gather like this, it often means the air force is preparing for possible air strikes.
KC-135 Tanker
The United States Air Force still depends a lot on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker. Even though this plane is very old, it is still very important. It is one of only nine military aircraft that have been flying for more than 60 years with the same original operator. The Air Force plans to keep using it until at least 2030. Other countries like Chile, Singapore, and Turkey also still use this aircraft. The plane can also carry up to 83,000 pounds of cargo or be used to move injured people for medical care.

The KC-135 first flew in 1956. It was developed from the same early design as the Boeing 707 passenger jet, but the military tanker came first. The aircraft has a wingspan of 130 feet 10 inches and is 136 feet 3 inches long. It can weigh up to 297,000 pounds when fully loaded. The plane can reach a top speed of 600 mph and usually flies at 552 mph. It can travel about 5,000 miles and fly as high as 41,000 feet. It uses four turbofan engines, which replaced older engines to give it better power. The aircraft usually has a crew of four and can carry up to 80 trooops.
According to old records from Boeing, the KC-135 was the only jet aircraft built specially for aerial refuelling at that time. More than 732 of these planes were made. Many are still flying today with upgrades. The refuelling system is placed in the lower part of the plane. This leaves space in the upper area to carry about 25 tons of cargo or 80 soldiers. These tankers played a big role during the Persian Gulf War and also during Operation Enduring Freedom. They were also used for homeland defence missions.
The Air Force had planned to slowly replace older KC-135 planes with the newer Boeing KC-46 Pegasus. In 2011, Boeing got a contract to build the KC-46, which is based on the Boeing 767 passenger plane. The plan was to replace 179 out of the 400 KC-135 tankers in service. But the KC-46 program has faced many problems. Reports said there were fuel system leaks and issues with its remote vision system. Because of these problems, the mission-ready rates have stayed very low.
KC-135 Upgrades
The KC-135 has also received upgrades over the years. Rockwell Collins was chosen to modernize its cockpit under the Pacer CRAG program. The aircraft now has a better flight management system. It includes a traffic alert and collision avoidance system and an enhanced ground proximity warning system.
The plane also got a new autopilot, a better flight director, a radar altimeter, and updated engine displays. Digital systems were added to improve safety and make flying more reliable.
