US China War: In a clear sign of rising tensions between the US and China, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Wednesday that the United States is fully “prepared” to go to war with China if necessary. This statement came after Beijing warned that it is ready to fight any kind of war, whether it is a trade war or a military conflict.

According to India TV News, Hegseth responded “We’re prepared. Those who long for peace must prepare for war.” He emphasized that military strength is crucial to preventing conflicts, adding, “That’s why we’re rebuilding our military. If we want to deter war with the Chinese or others, we must be strong, and that president understands peace comes through strength,” according to a media report.

The US Defence Secretary also highlighted China’s rapid military expansion, noting that Beijing is significantly increasing its defence spending and investing in advanced technology. He stated, “They (China) want to supplant the United States.”

Earlier, China’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement claiming it is ready to fight any war with the US, whether it involves tariffs or other forms of conflict. The ministry accused the US of using the fentanyl crisis as a “flimsy excuse” to impose higher tariffs on Chinese imports.

China’s Foreign Ministry argued that the US is responsible for its own fentanyl crisis, while China has taken strong measures to help the US address the issue. The statement said, “Instead of recognising our efforts, the U.S. has sought to smear and shift blame to China and is seeking to pressure and blackmail China with tariff hikes. They’ve been PUNISHING us for helping them.”

These exchanges highlight the growing tensions between the two global powers, with both sides preparing for potential conflicts on multiple fronts.
