US Navy Boat Order: A 40-foot patrol boat with a pilothouse made of welded aluminium, the Metal Shark 40 Defiant can be outfitted with a variety of crew-served and remotely operated armament systems in addition to ballistic protection. An outboard, waterjet, or inboard/outboard combination powers the ReconCraft 40-foot patrol boat, which has a similar design.

A deal worth up to US$290 million over seven years for indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity, multiple awards, would see Gravois Aluminium Boats provide up to 73 small patrol boats to Naval Expeditionary Combat Command.

The Shepherd Media reported that Metal Shark and ReconCraft, two of Garvis’s subsidiaries, will construct the boats; the former has been given an initial order of $6.5 million, while the latter has been given $7.7 million.

By the end of the next year, the orders under the original contract should be finished. While Metal Shark boats come from the US Navy, National Guard and Reserve Equipment Appropriations are funding ReconCraft’s boats.

The US Navy Naval Sea Systems Command was the contracting activity for this competitively procured contract, which was obtained through the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment. Four bids were received.

ReconCraft was given a nearly $36 million contract in 2023 to provide the US Navy with 12 40-foot patrol boats. Work on the vessels is scheduled to conclude in September 2025.
