Tayfun Block-4: Turkey’s First Hypersonic Ballistic Missile Technology

Turkey has revealed its first hypersonic ballistic missile, Tayfun Block-4. Built by Roketsan, it can hit targets 800 km away and marks a big step in Turkey’s defence power.

Tayfun Block-4: Turkey has taken a big step in its defence strength by showing its first hypersonic ballistic missile. The missile is called Tayfun Block-4 and was presented at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 in Istanbul. This new missile is made by Roketsan, which is one of Turkey’s biggest defence companies. It is the faster and more advanced version of Turkey’s longest-range missile, the original Tayfun. This event has caught global attention dueTurkey and Pakistan have been growing closer in defence, politics, and ideology.

The new Tayfun Block-4 is a powerful weapon. It is about 6.5 meters long and weighs around 2,300 kilograms. It can also travel as far as 800 kilometres, reproted Defence Industry Europe. This version of the missile is said to be even heavier, weighing more than 7 tons. The company said it has a warhead that can hit and destroy many important military targets like command centres, air defence systems, hangars, and other major defence buildings. Roketsan also said that this missile sets a new record for Turkey’s defence industry.

What Hypersonic Missiles Do?

Hypersonic means something that travels five times faster than the speed of sound. These weapons are very advanced, they can move quickly through Earth’s atmosphere while changing direction mid-air, which makes it very hard to track or shoot down. Hypersonic missiles usually fly at Mach 5 or more, which is about 6,100 kilometres per hour. Experts say most ballistic missiles also reach this speed when they come down toward their targets, but hypersonic missiles are different because of their ability to glide and manoeuvre during flight.

Tayfun Block-4 is Turkey’s step into this high-speed technology. The missile is not just fast but also built to hit targets that are far away and well protected. It shows that Turkey wants to compete in the world’s top-level defence tech and make its defence sector more powerful.

Turkey and Pakistan’s Defence Relation

This new missile launch comes at a time when Turkey and Pakistan are working more closely, especially in the military field. Their partnership has grown stronger in recent years. After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, tensions between India and Pakistan got worse, and Turkey’s defence connection with Pakistan became more visible. Even though both countries said no weapons were transferred, Indian officials said Pakistan used Bayraktar TB2 drones made by Turkey during attacks.

According to NDTV, Lieutenant General Rahul R Singh from the Indian Army said earlier this month, “Turkey… played an important role in providing the type of support it did; they gave Bayraktar. We saw numerous other drones also coming in during the war.” This statement showed how involved Turkey was with Pakistan’s military during that time. Also, during the India-Pakistan conflict in May, Turkey openly supported Pakistan, which showed where Ankara stood during the fight.

Turkey has already given Pakistan drones and naval equipment, which makes it a trusted defence partner for Islamabad. The partnership doesn’t stop at just defence. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Pakistan earlier this month to talk about working together more in different areas like economy, education, culture, and of course, defence.
