Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia Air Defence: Senior defence leaders from Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia recently met to speak about working together in air defence and military growth. The meeting focused on how both countries can improve their defence systems and help each other in the future.
Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Aruna Jayasekara, who is a retired Major General, met Lt. Gen. Mazyad bin Sulaiman Al-Amro. He is the Commander of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Defence in Riyadh. This discussion happened during Jayasekara’s official visit to attend the World Defence Show 2026. Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence shared this information in a statement.
Focus on Training and Experience Sharing
During the talks, both sides spoke about ways to build closer defence ties. They discussed sharing knowledge and experience through staff level meetings and by taking part in defence forums in each other’s countries. The Sri Lankan team also asked for special training chances for its defence personnel in Saudi Arabia. The aim is to improve Sri Lanka’s air defence skills and make its forces stronger.
The Sri Lankan delegation also thanked Saudi Arabia for its help during Cyclone Ditwah. They said the support given at that time showed the strong and lasting friendship between the two nations. The gesture was seen as a symbol of trust and cooperation.
Positive End to the Meeting
The discussion ended on a good and friendly note. Both countries agreed that they want to continue building stronger defence relations. They repeated their promise to increase cooperation in air defence and expand professional military teamwork.
