Russia-Ukraine War: The head of Ukraine’s military stated that the conditions on the eastern front have worsened in the past few days, as Russia has increased its armoured attacks and fierce battles are ongoing for dominance over a village located to the west of the heavily damaged city of Bakhmut.

Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi’s statement, made more than two years after Russia invaded Ukraine, sparked a depressing atmosphere in the city as crucial US military assistance that Kyiv had anticipated receiving months prior is still stalled in Congress.

According to Syrskyi, he went to the beleaguered region to stabilize the front while Russian assault groups, utilizing tanks and armored personnel carriers, exploited a spell of warm, dry weather that was facilitating their maneuvers.

In recent weeks, Kyiv has made more and more frantic requests for supplies of air defense missiles.

According to Syrskyi, Moscow’s forces were occasionally gaining tactical advantages despite suffering heavy casualties in their eastward assaults.

This village is situated in the northeastern direction of Chasiv Yar, a town under the governance of Kyiv government. It is noteworthy that Russia has been making efforts to seize Chasiv Yar after gaining control over Avdiivka, a town located to the south, back in February.

Russian armoured assault groups, according to Syrskyi, are attempting to breach lines on the Pokrovsk front by deploying dozens of tanks and armored personnel carriers, while also targeting Kyiv’s positions on the fronts of Bakhmut and Lyman.

Only a technological edge over Russia in highly developed weaponry, according to the head of Ukraine’s armed forces, would enable Kyiv “to seize the strategic initiative” from a more formidable and well-equipped adversary.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy signed legislation on Thursday, approving a law that will alter the process of enlisting civilians into the armed services. This move comes as a response to Ukraine’s labor shortages, with a specific focus on providing additional training to soldiers, particularly in the infantry. Furthermore, the draft age has been reduced from 27 to 25, as per the newly signed legislation.
