Lockheed Martin F-16V Program in Greece: Lockheed Martin has said the Hellenic Air Force has now received its 50th F-16 fighter jet upgraded to the F-16V version. This is a big step for Greece because it shows the country is moving ahead with a major plan to improve its air force. The F-16V is a newer and more advanced version of the older F-16, so this upgrade is meant to give Greece stronger and more capable fighter aircraft for the years ahead.
This modernization program includes 83 F-16C/D aircraft in total. The work has been going on since December 2018 under a government-to-government agreement. The upgrade work is being done together with Greek partners, especially Hellenic Aerospace Industry, where the aircraft are being modernized. That means this is not only about getting better fighter jets. It is also about local industry in Greece taking part in the work and helping support the country’s defence needs.

Steady Work Since the First Deliveries
The first two F-16V aircraft were delivered to Greece in September 2022. Since then, Lockheed Martin and its Greek partners have kept the program moving forward. Now the delivery of the 50th aircraft shows that the project is continuing at a solid pace.
This new milestone matters even more because Greece is also studying whether to expand the program. According to the latest reporting, the Greek government is looking at the possible upgrade of as many as 40 more F-16 aircraft in the Block 50 version. Those planes were first delivered by the United States in 1997 and 1998. If that move goes ahead, Greece could push the modernization of its fighter fleet even further.
Bigger Plan for Greece’s Air Power
The upgraded F-16V jets are expected to become one of the most important parts of Greece’s air power. This comes at a time when Greece has already completed deliveries of 24 Dassault Rafale F3R fighter jets and has also placed an order for 20 F-35A Lightning II aircraft from Lockheed Martin.

Greece is not the only country doing this. Poland has also chosen to upgrade its own F-16 fleet to the F-16V standard, becoming the second country in Europe to follow this path.
