Indonesian and Malaysian Defense Ministers discuss Southeast Asia’s stability and security issues, focusing on maintaining ASEAN’s neutrality and peacefulness for the region’s well-being.

Indonesian and Malaysian Defense Ministers: During their meeting today, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian colleague Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin talked about some topics, including fostering stability in Southeast Asia and addressing security problems.

Despite the present obstacles, Indonesian and Malaysian Defense Ministers are dedicated to maintaining ASEAN’s status as a free, neutral, and peaceful zone, thereby promoting the region’s overall well-being.

Following a courtesy call on Prabowo, who is also the President-elect of Indonesia, at the Ministry of Defence here, Mohamed Khaled told reporters, “We discussed and agreed that the matter of ensuring ASEAN Centrality can continue to be used as a guide to steer the future of the region.”

As per Malaymail, During the conference, Mohamed Khaled underscored the significance of Indonesia as a developed and thriving nation that can create equilibrium between ASEAN and other countries to confront difficulties in the area.

The two ministers also spoke about measures to strengthen military relations in line with the 2022 agreement, such as intelligence and science and technology in the defense industry.

Given that “war and challenges in the defense sector and industry depend on science and technology,” he said, representatives from the two countries’ ministries would have follow-up talks on collaboration in various related focus areas.

In addition, he stated, “We decided to give special attention to addressing the issues of cyber security and terrorism, as well as the implementation of this year’s General Board Committee Meeting in Kuala Lumpur in November or December.”

The two-hour conversation also touched on the South China Sea, the turmoil in the Middle East, and the Myanmar situation.

The two leaders gathered again following their initial meeting on April 4 in Kuala Lumpur.

The national anthems of both countries were playing as Mohamed Khaled arrived, and Lieutenant-General Muhammad Herindra, Indonesia’s deputy minister of defense, escorted him to view the Guard of Honor.

The members of his delegation included Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin, the Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, the secretary-general of the defence ministry, Brigadier-General Azrin Iskandar Zulkaply, the director-general of the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organization, Lieutenant-General Datuk Mohd Razali Alias.
