Ground Master 200 multi-mission radars: In an effort to bolster the country’s artillery defences, Lithuania’s Defence Material Agency (DMA) has inked a deal with Dutch rivals to purchase Thales GM200 MM/C radars.
The Lithuanian Land Forces will benefit from improved situational awareness and weapon placement capabilities thanks to the multi-mission capabilities of the radars.
In 2019, Thales debuted the Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission (GM200 MM) radar. Since then, the Netherlands and Denmark have worked with Thales to strengthen their air defence and surveillance capabilities by purchasing five GM200 radars.
The GM200 MM/C is equipped with simultaneous detection, tracking, and classification capabilities to counter threats like as drones, missiles, and helicopters. It was designed to suit the demands of modern warfare. The 4D AESA technology of the radar guarantees effective threat assessment, giving operators additional time to learn about approaching threats. The system has software-defined radar and is protected against cyberattacks.

The ELSIS-backed Lithuanian relationship with Thales places a strong focus on cooperative efforts within NATO and national defence. The acquisition demonstrates the strong European defence cooperation that is in place and is in line with NATO’s goal of safeguarding the skies.
The head of the Defence Material Agency, Mr. Sigitas Dzekunskas, highlights the collaborative element by saying, “There are many opportunities for enhanced cooperation with NATO allies in the field of acquisition and support through joint procurement.”
The CEO of Thales Netherlands, Gerben Edelijn, emphasises the importance of this government-to-government agreement: “This agreement between the Netherlands and Lithuania demonstrates the robust defence cooperation in Europe.” We are honoured to be a part of this NATO partnership, which will improve military personnel’s and high-value assets’ safety and security thanks to our GM200 MM/C.
The purchase of Thales GM200 MM/C radars by Lithuania represents a technological advance in the country’s military capabilities as well as the cooperative spirit within NATO to guarantee a more secure future for the alliance.
