Fuchs 2 Carrier Components: The Fuchs 2 armoured personnel carrier, often known as the “Fox” in German, has received an order in the three-digit million euro range from an unidentified foreign buyer, according to German armaments maker Rheinmetall.

The client wants to use a plant in a partner nation to construct the 6×6 tracked vehicle. The provision of spare component packages and conversion kits are also included in the current follow-up purchases.

A corporate statement dated January 29, 2024, disclosing the specifics of the deal for the first time, states that the kits, which were booked in December 2023, are scheduled for delivery this year and will be finished in 2028 for both manufacturing and conversion.

According to Rheinemtall, the partner country’s production plant has experienced a rise in added value recently, along with expenditures to guarantee top-notch surface treatment, welding, and machining.

Thus, a new and hopeful chapter in this long-standing strategic collaboration is beginning, one that may see the export of Fuchs 2 cars made in the partner nation.

The German Army has had Fuchs 2s in its possession for about fifty years. Thus far, over 1,800 Fuchs automobiles have been produced.

The vehicle is entirely amphibious and has a maximum combat weight of 20,000 kg. The Fuchs 2’s primary enhanced features include the addition of a more potent, low-emission engine that increases payload capacity by 4 tonnes (t), up to a maximum of 9.4 t, depending on the variant.

A variety of weapon systems, such as a Rheinmetall E8 turret or Rheinmetall light weight RLS 609 weapon station, are available for operators to mount on the vehicle. Missiles, a 30 millimetre (mm) cannon, and a 7.62mm machine gun may be mounted atop the E8 turret.

German Kosovo Force

The German Army, as well as the armed forces of Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, the UK, the US, and Venezuela, are using the vehicles.

German forces serving in Kosovo and Macedonia under the German Kosovo Force (KFOR) have utilised the Fuchs in active action. The Fuchs 2 trials got underway in 2001.

Furthermore, since 1979, the German Armed Forces have deployed many iterations of the Fuchs 1, deploying more than a hundred of these vehicles in Afghanistan and other locations. There are about 940 Fuchs vehicles in the Bundeswehr’s inventory, 272 of which are type 1A8.

Several forces use the vehicle in various capacities. It can be an NBC reconnaissance vehicle, a field ambulance, a mobile command post, or an armoured personnel carrier.

An enhanced version of the Fuchs 1, the Fuchs 2 has a more capacious cabin, a more potent engine, a revised chassis, better contemporary safety features, and a digital electrical system.
