Airbus Helicopters Capa-X Drone: Airbus Helicopters has received a new defence project in Europe. The company announced that its subsidiary Survey Copter has been chosen by the European Defence Agency (EDA) for the Multi Mission Unmanned Aircraft System project, also called M2UAS.
This project will run for about 48 months which means around four years. The total budget for the programme is about €1.1 million. The main goal of the project is to study and develop a hybrid unmanned aircraft. This aircraft will not need a pilot and it will be able to perform different kinds of missions depending on how it is equipped.
The drone will be designed so it can change its configuration and carry different payloads. Because of this it will be able to handle many types of defence operations.

Airbus Says ‘Selection shows trust in its Drone Technology’
Airbus Helicopters said the contract is an important step for its drone systems work in Europe. The company also shared a statement from one of its senior leaders.
Christophe Canguilhem, Director of the Capa-X programme at Airbus Helicopters, said, “We would like to thank the EDA for the trust it has placed in us. This selection is a major recognition of our expertise in tactical drone systems and reflects our commitment to supporting the development of innovative European defence capabilities.”
He also explained why the company’s drone platform fits well with the project. He said, “The characteristics of the Capa-X system make it particularly well suited to the M2UAS project, while offering a scalable operational solution that can be adapted to the needs of the armed forces.”
The company plans to use its existing Capa-X uncrewed aerial system as the base for the new work.
Project will Study Future Military Drone needs
The M2UAS project will begin with a research and analysis phase. The first stage will last about 12 months. During this time the team will study current military needs and also look at what defence forces may require in the future.
The project will also examine technical challenges and possible solutions. Engineers will study different technologies and decide which options can improve the drone system.
The goal is to make the Capa-X platform more flexible and useful for many missions. By improving the system the drone could become more efficient and capable of handling several roles.
In the long run the project is expected to help Europe design new types of military drones. These systems could carry out many tasks such as surveillance, reconnaissance missions, electronic warfare operations, aerial effects deployment, and even automated refueling while flying.

The Capa-X Drone
The Capa-X drone is designed as a multi-mission unmanned aircraft. It weighs about 120 kg and is built to handle several types of operations.
The drone can operate up to 100 km away using a data link system. It can stay in the air for up to 10 hours during a mission. It also has the ability to carry payloads weighing as much as 20 kg.
One of its key features is its modular design. This means the drone can be changed or adjusted easily depending on the mission. It can be configured to match the needs of armed forces, government authorities, and also civil or public service operators.
