CRPF DG and CISF DG: Both the DG (Director General) of CRPF and CISF are very important and lead big forces under the Central Armed Police Forces of India. But the nature of their jobs are a bit different and so is their responsibilities.
CRPF DG
The CRPF, which is short for Central Reserve Police Force, is actually the biggest paramilitary force in the whole country. It is deployed in areas where there are problems like Naxal violence, terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and in the northeast region where law and order can get disturbed. So, the DG of CRPF looks after over 3 lakh soldiers. That’s a huge number of people under one person’s command.
That also means that this DG has to take more field-related decisions and handle operations on the ground. The CRPF plays a very big role in keeping the country safe from the inside, and the DG is responsible for all of that.
CISF DG
CISF, which stands for Central Industrial Security Force, its job is a little different. CISF protects places like airports, nuclear power plants, metro stations, and even some private sector buildings. So, even though the number of soldiers is less compared to CRPF, the job of CISF is very sensitive. They don’t work mostly in disturbed areas like CRPF does, but they are given charge of very high-security zones. That is why the DG of CISF has to make sure everything runs smoothly where high-value assets of the country are involved. Their work is more about guarding and protecting than fighting or taking part in operations.
Who Has More Power and Better Salary?
Both pf the DGs are senior IPS officers with the same rank of Director General. The central government appoints them, and they get the same grade. But people usually feel that the CRPF DG is more powerful because they command more men and work more in action zones. Their influence also spreads wider due to the number of places where CRPF is deployed.

When it comes to salary, there is no big difference. Both the DGs earn around ₹2,25,000 every month. On top of that, they get extra benefits and allowances like housing and travel facilities. So in terms of money, both posts are equal and come with good perks.
Overall both officers have big responsibilities, just in different ways.
