Commando hub in Ayodhya: The Indian government will open a new regional base of the National Security Guard (NSG) in Ayodhya. Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the plan on Tuesday, calling it a big step to make the country safer. The new base will expand the presence of the NSG, also known as the “Black Cat” commandos, who handle tough counter-terror operations and high-risk missions across India.

Ayodhya to Become the 6th NSG Hub
While speaking at the 41st Raising Day of the NSG in Delhi, Amit Shah said that the Ayodhya hub will become the sixth regional base for the force. The other hubs are in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Gandhinagar. The NSG also has a smaller task force working in Jammu.
Shah said, “So far, five hubs of the NSG have been established in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad (Gandhinagar). In addition, a new hub is also going to be set up in Ayodhya. Here, the NSG personnel will be deployed and available round the clock.”
He also said that the Modi government will soon make big changes in how the NSG works, though he did not explain what those changes will be.
Expansion After Years of Planning
The decision to open the Ayodhya hub comes about 16 years after the first four regional hubs were created in 2009, following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Those bases were built in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata to help NSG commandos reach danger zones faster instead of being flown from Delhi. The fifth hub, in Gandhinagar, was approved in 2011.

Each of these units acts as a special backup team that can handle long and dangerous operations. These hubs also help the NSG work better with local police and prepare states to deal with any emergency quickly.
The NSG started in 1984 and is known as one of the best counter-terror forces in the world. It is often called a “zero-error” unit because of its quick and precise work during crises. The force includes trained members from the Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces. They handle missions like counter-terror operations, anti-hijacking efforts, and VIP protection.
