DAC Defence Deals: The Indian government is planning to approve several major defence projects very soon. These proposals are coming from all three branches of the armed forces the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force. A meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) is expected to happen later this week, where these plans will be taken up. This council is headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and might clear defence deals worth more than ₹1 lakh crore.

One of the most important proposals on the table is the upgrading of the Su-30MKI fighter jets. These are a major part of the Indian Air Force, and the upgrade will help them become more powerful and useful in future missions. The DAC had already agreed to this upgrade project earlier. Just recently theDefence Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke about this with the Defence Minister of Russia, Andrey Belousov, when they met during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conclave.

DAC Defence Deals: New Missiles, Aircraft, and Naval Mines

Another big proposal that may get approved in this meeting is the purchase of Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles, known as QRSAM. These missiles are expected to cost around ₹30,000 crore. They are very useful because they can quickly find and attack enemy targets up to 30 kilometers away, reported The week.

Indian Army

The Indian Army wants these missiles to protect against sudden air attacks. What makes QRSAM even more special is that it can move while tracking targets, and it can fire missiles without needing to stop for long.

Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force is also planning to buy three special planes known as I-STAR aircraft. These planes will help in gathering intelligence, watching enemy movements, and targeting important enemy positions. The Air Force will buy these planes from the company that makes them, and then the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will modify them to suit India’s defence needs.

Indian Navy

Indian Navy is looking to buy new mines made by DRDO. These mines are pressure-based and can be placed underwater. They work by sensing pressure or sound changes made by enemy ships or submarines passing nearby. Once they detect these signs, the mines can destroy the targets before they become a threat.
