PM Naval Ship commission: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on Wednesday, 15th January, to dedicate three important naval ships, INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vaghsheer, to the nation.
This event will take place during their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. After this event, he will inaugurate the ISKCON Temple in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
The commissioning of these three major naval combatants is a big step forward in India’s journey to becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security. INS Surat, which is the 4th and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, is one of the largest and most advanced destroyers in the world. It has 75% indigenous products, meaning most of its components were made in India.
INS Vaghsheer: Indian Navy to commission 6th Kalvari-class submarine on January 15
This ship is equipped with advanced weapons, sensors, and network-centric technologies. INS Nilgiri on the other hand is the first ship from the P17A Stealth Frigate Project. Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau, it includes modern features for better stealth, survivability, and handling at sea.
This makes it a next-generation indigenous ship. The third vessel, INS Vaghsheer, is the sixth and final submarine from the P75 Scorpene Project. This submarine showcases India’s growing skills in building submarines. It was made in collaboration with the Naval Group of France.
After this, the Prime Minister will visit Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, to inaugurate the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Temple, reported by Buisness Standard. This ISKCON project, spread across nine acres, is an important cultural addition to the region.
The temple will house several deities and include facilities such as a Vedic education centre, museums, an auditorium, and a healing centre. The project aims to promote universal brotherhood, peace, and harmony through the teachings of the Vedas.
On Tuesday, before his Maharashtra visit, the Prime Minister will take part in the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. During this event, he will address the gathering and launch a new initiative called ‘Mission Mausam.’

This mission will also improve the understanding of weather and climate, provide better air quality data, and help create strategies for long-term weather management.
The Prime Minister will also release the IMD Vision-2047 document. This document outlines plans for weather forecasting, weather management, and climate change mitigation, ensuring that India is prepared to face future challenges related to climate and weather.
